Why Cacao

Cacao is a plant medicine that has been used since ancient times. The earliest evidence of cacao usage comes from The Olmecs, where the word Kakaw also comes from, meaning the seeds of the cacao fruit. The Classic Mayans, known for their incredible discoveries in writing, mathematics, astronomy and more were also known to have worked with Cacao, consuming this plant medicine from hemispherical clay bowls. In those times, Cacao was not drunk for pleasure, but as part of ritual. It was only when the Spanish Conquistadors invaded, colonised and destroyed native cultures that they also discovered Cacao and invented ‘chocolate’ by adding sugar and spices to sweeten the bitter cacao taste, thus bringing to the West hot chocolate and chocolate confections and removing the element of ritual from it.

I was only seventeen when I attended my first Cacao ceremony where I drank ceremonial Cacao, and since then been working with this plant medicine who has so much to offer. After years of attending Cacao ceremonies and having my own ritual with IxCacao, I decided to start facilitating my own Cacao ceremonies where others can experience and discover the beautiful medicine of this plant. The Cacao Ceremonies I hold include somatic movement, ecstatic dance, connection, music and sound healing, journaling and other ways that help facilitate our journey within.

Here you’ll find all my upcoming Cacao ceremonies and Women’s circles.
