A naturopathic approach to healing

I believe in food as medicine. Food provides deep nourishment. Food brings us together in community. The kitchen could become a healing sanctuary where we can create colourful meals, connect with nature, ourselves and find peace through mindful cooking. We carry so much story about cooking, feeding our bodies and feeding others. There is so much confusion around what is ‘healthy’ and what isn’t, what we should or should not be eating.

As a nutritional therapist, I believe that healing our bodies starts with the basics: the food we eat and the way in which we eat. I don’t believe it is enough to only focus on nutrition, yet it is the foundation upon which everything else builds.

What is Naturopathic Nutritional Therapy?

As a Naturopath, I believe that we inherently hold the knowledge of what we need in order to heal ourselves. In us, there is a healing power of nature which in naturopathic medicine we call the Vital Force. Disease (which I like to call dis-ease) is simply a state of imbalance, a lack of “ease” caused by factors such as stress and trauma, processed foods, alcohol, medications, a toxic environment and so on. Nutritional Therapy is a non-invasive tool for healing the body, mind and spirit through restoring health with food, pure water, herbs, supplements and other body or mind-based practices (breathing, hydrotherapy, mindset). We look at an individual’s constitution, life stage, background, environment and circumstances and take a holistic approach.

We are all pure, thriving and beautiful beings with radiating health and each of us deserves to embody this truth. In nutritional therapy, we acknowledge the biochemical individuality of each human being and the mental (cognitive function, perception), emotional (regulation, nervous system health) and spiritual (meaning and purpose) aspects. No client leaves a naturopath with the same treatment plan.

“But the real secret to lifelong good health is actually the opposite: let your body take care of you.”
– Deepak Chopra
